Notes:
-the aestuarium comp is a triple 7" comp, each 7" with their own obscure midwestern funk/soul group. I reviewed this album for
dusted magazine and it's pretty damn good. nothing like finding obscure early 70s funk. I hope aestuarium sends us a copy of it...
-I'm very excited to hear the full faust/dalek album. from talking with the
dalek guys at the fall show last year, it sounds like it was a really interesting and fun project. this one song was definitely more dalek than faust, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. dalek has a way of making the floor rumble like no other hiphop group.
-after a year and a half of staring at me, I finally broke down and got the fluxus anthology (for samples, go
here). good stuff all around. WPRB needs more la monte young.
-every time I've played the linda perhacs, I've gotten callers asking about it. it's uncanny.
-lots of good, new underground hiphop being released right now. I really like the new aesop rock, and I liked the tracks I played from the lifesavas and j-live. there's a new record from danger mouse that I forgot to play this week, and other good stuff to come soon on
def jux,
quannum, etc. very exciting.
-peter brotzmann came as a response to art, who ended his show with jimi hendrix doing machine gun with the band of gypsies. so I ended with brotzmann's (decidedly different) version. I also couldn't figure out what to play next, so I just killed 10 minutes with one song.
