notes:
-back at my normal time after a few weeks of flux. twas a good show, I believe.
-the russendisko comp is yet another fine compilation of oddities from trikont. what this proved to me is that ska-punk never really died, it just went east. somehow russian singing makes it that much more fun.
-the roach/braxton is some of the best jazz I've heard in a while. roach provides a really solid base without being constricting, and braxton just fills up the space around. what a great album.
-holger hiller is formerly of palais schaumburg. this 1986 album finds him making really dark, sample based songs with some semblance of a band there too. the songs are really strange, but pretty great at the same time. I highly recommend it.
-nobody does black sabbath better than the ruins.
-the radio birdman and buzzcocks requests came from a barbeque going on at greg's and my house (which I would go to after my show) involving a bunch of prb folk.
-I find myself strangely attached to that british post-rolling stones glam scene. I just can't get enough of nikki sudden and the various projects surrounding him. crime and the city solution were roland s howard (formerly of the birthday party and a sudden collaborator), epic soundtracks (sudden's brother) and a few other folks. pretty great gloom rock.
-terry callier has the most amazing voice I've ever heard on a folk singer. that record is pretty awesome.
-fugazi's the argument is a fucking great album. there's no denying this fact.
-I will have a live set from the old scottish punk band, the threats, on my show on the 28th. they've reunited after 20 years and are just finishing a tour in the states, playing all material from their late 70s-early 80s hayday. pretty great stuff, so be sure to tune in!
